2255.0. "305. Failed. In the 900MSstartup" by MXOC00::CSILVA () Mon May 08 1995 22:30

    Hi,

    I have a problem with a 900MS.

After maybe 2 hours of normal operation, if i need to reset the MS,
I get the message "Failed" on the LCD display during the boot sequence.

The message appears when the boot sequence counter is on 305 or 306 and
has never appeared when the MS is powered up after a period of time.

Because the hub is for demos and courses it's necesary for me and the
students to configure, reset and reconfigure the module for
    demonstration porpouses.

Where is the problem?, may be the hub needs a major repair, but at
least, what does the appearance of the message in that point exactly
    mean?.

    Thanks for any help.

2255.1MAM interrupt problem?ROGER::GAUDETBecause the Earth is 2/3 waterTue May 09 1995 12:364
Check out note 2053.1 for a list of test codes displayed while the MAM is
running diagnostics. You may have a flakey hub.

...Roger...
2255.2Thanks, but...MXOC00::CSILVATue May 09 1995 19:0213
    Thank you Roger,

Any way the hub it's not reporting the problem anymore.

It's getting worse, the MAM performs its self test and
can not recognize completely the power supplies, because of that
the MAM permanently wait for the ps and can not perform any power
arbitration. Therefore, only the 90's modules are powered up.

    Serious problems for the hub.

    Carlos,

check that the cables are tight in the bottom of the MAM.

If the mam is reading the power suppiles correctly ( shows the right
amount of power available) and does not power up max modules, take the
back off the hub and check the ribbon cable that goes down to the
matrix board. there were a number that were not dressed correctly and
were cut by the finger stock that makes the chassis ground between the
metal back cover and the inside of the box.

    Keith:

The MAM never provides the amount of power available or used, instead
of that, always displays "Chkng. power status". A similar message
appears while showing the list of available slots.

Curiously , I reported 2 cases: the one I was referring in the previous
paragraph, and the initial message Failed when the initial counter
    reaches 305 or 306.

I carefully checked the conditions of the 2 messages. Because I do
exercices upgrading the firware, I downgrade the version before a new
    course.

the message 305 Failed, appears with version 3.1.0. of the MAM
    firmware
the full size modules don't get power with version 3.0.0.

any way i am going to re-check the connections and post my results
    here.

    Thanks

If you get the setup port menu, see if there are errorlog entries
for the power supplies. Maybe you have a supply that is bouncing
    up and down continuously.

Efectively, there are log entries for the supplies, even there are
ocasions (most of the time) where HubWatch reports incorrectly the
locations of the PS or reports no PS installed!! (magic).

Definitively it's not the PS's fault, I've tried with diferent ones
    and with other hubs.

    I observed that sometimes the 900MS generates a Trap (I couldn't
see wich one) and resets itself, generating again the 305, 306 or 307
    Failed message.

The conections seem to be OK.

I think will call MCS for a substitution.

    Thank you.
