2227.0. "PEswitch Stand Alone?" by ANGLIN::CLAYTON (Merlin Clayton (314)947-6763) Thu Apr 27 1995 17:42

I just received a PE Switch 900 and a DEChub ONE MX for a stand-alone
config. According to the PEswitch doc I should be able to redirect
Ethernet port 4 from the front panel 10BaseT connector to the DEChub
ONE AUI port on the backplane. When so doing, the Network Activity
LED for port 4 should show yellow. This does not happen.

If I connect directly to port 4 with 10BaseT connection and have the
front panel port enabled, I can ping the PEswitch without any problems.

If I redirect port 4 to the DEChub one AUI connector and move my 10BaseT
connection to the MAU on the DEChub ONE, I have no connection, nor do
I see the Network Activity LED for port 4 show yellow.

I'm using a MILAN 10BASET-to-AUI MAU for the backplane connectivity. I
was assuming that this, or any other 10BaseT MAU would work. Is that a
valid assumption?

Can anyone suggest any other reasons why this is not working?

Thanks.

Merlin

2227.1Check the number of 10BaseT crossovers you have...NETCAD::BATTERSBYThu Apr 27 1995 21:3014
    I think I know what is happening. The PEswitch 900TX has embedded
    crossover connections. Whatever type of cable you are using on
    your front port (4) connection, you have the right number of
    crossovers. When you move that same cable to the MAU connected to
    the AUI port on the back of the DEChub ONE, you may have neglected
    to take into account the additional crossover occuring in the MAU.
    I was able to duplicate what you were seeing, and by changing the
    cable type used to make the 10BaseT connection to the MAU, I was
    able to bring the link up and complete the connection. There's
    nothing wrong with your PEswitch, or Docking Station. I'm sure it's
    just the number of crossovers to deal with when switching cables
    back and forth like you are doing.
