2201.0. "HUBwatch V4 questions" by CHEFS::BILLERSB () Wed Apr 19 1995 16:24

Q1 - I understand that upload / download facilities will now be in V4.1
and not V4.0 ? Will the config files be able to be backed up
remotely? This is important as configs get complex.

Q2 - Will V4.0 support dynamic purging of MAC addresses? ie. we need to
avoid problems due to devices appearing on multiple ports (of
    portswitch for example during reconfigurations.

Two solutions could be employed. Adjustable aging or table delete
    facility.

Q3 - I looked in the Manage directory but couldn't find the above. Is
there a file / document that helps with the above questions and more??

    Thanks,

    Bob

I'm confused by "upload / download facilities". If you are talking about the
backup/restore function, then, yes. That is likely to be V4.1.

I'm confused by "config files". If you mean the saved data read from the
device (or to be written to a device), then I'm confused by "remotely".
Everything is done via SNMP. So, on any workstation or pc connected anywhere
on your IP network, you can do a backup or restore of any hub, hub module,
or GIGAswitch on your network.

The model for this function is a disk backup/restore. But, instead of
backing-up a disk, you can back-up a bridge or a hub or whatnot. The
save-set/tar/whatever file is written by the workstation or pc which is
doing the backup. If the data can be read from SNMP, then it can be
backed-up. An easy-to-use (trust me) GUI is the user interface to all this.
Unlike traditional disk backup utilities (BACKUP, tar, etc), the saved
data file is human-readable, as well as machine readable.

- Q2 carefully skipped -

I don't know.
