2189.0. "DECnet/IP filter formats?" by NAC::LICAUSE () Wed Apr 12 1995 20:18

When filtering a DECnet address in a hub bridge, HUBwatch give us the
ability to enter the address in normal DECnet format (i.e. 12.123).

It then correctly converts this to a MAC format (aa-00-04...).

Would it be possible to display the currently active DECnet filters
    as DECnet addresses?

We realize that this would be an added vendor specific feature, but
then so is the ability to enter a straight DECnet address. It would
be much easier to find a specific filter in this case.

In addition, will it be possible at some time in the future to filter
on an IP address? Today, it allows you to enter the IP address, but
then returns the error "Could not translate IP into MAC address.
Address filter entry has not been added."

Yes.

Both the OSF and OpenVMS versions allow this in V3.1. It has been added
to the Windows version for 4.0.

Anxious to see it since we're running X4.0.13. Is it in this release
    or an up and comer?

    thanks,

Sorry about DECnet display; I was being literal and smart-assed. It is
*possible*, but it is not planned...

I've thought about it since you posted your note, and realized that it
is complicated to add translations from MAC to either DECnet or IP for
the address filters window. Often these changes are pretty straightforward,
but this one is messy.

Don't hold your breath on this one. However, as of 4.0 on all platforms
you can enter IP or DECnet. But it won't display DECnet or IP, just MAC.
