2188.0. "multi-repeater configuration with 900TM and demprs" by ABACUS::BUKOWSKI () Wed Apr 12 1995 19:27

  I would like to re-configure a large facility with the following
  configuration. Is it legal? Thanks, Mike

2188.1Works but is it legal?NAC::LICAUSEWed Apr 12 1995 20:2317
    Mike,

    We have at least one such setup in LKG like this. We recently found a
    problem, however, in that it was sensitive to specific files. We found
    that the UTP cable between the top most repeater and its' neighbor
    bridge was not up to spec.

    It is also quite possible to force end systems to use three repeaters
    in such a configuration. I'd like to see an answer to this as well
    since the old rules said....."no more than two repeaters", but we've
    recently heard that this is now three repeaters with the new devices.

    The problem is that if it is now three repeaters, is this still valid
    if old and new technology (i.e. dempr >> 900 series) is used?

2188.2Can still add one more to your config.CGOS01::DMARLOWEWow! Reality, what a concept!Mon May 01 1995 18:226
    As discussed here and an old ETHERNET notes conference, the old 2
    repeater rule is not being used any more. The "new" rules are no more
    that 4 repeaters between any 2 stations. This is not really different
    than the old 2 repeater rule but we now count by ones instead of halfs.
