2175.0. "Hubloader/tftp a full server???" by SCCAT::MILLER () Wed Apr 05 1995 17:14

    Is the tftp server in Hubloader actually a full tftp server, or
    is it limited in some way? When I read a file from the server,
    it works fine. When I attempt to dump a file to it, I get either
    an "Error code 2: File access violation" or an "Error code 1:
    File not found". The tftp counters increment for these operations,
    and a file is created in the default load directory, but the file
    size is 0. I set up the config/files with the file names and W
    access (and the server MAC/IP addresses of the systems that are
    being used to load/dump the files).

    Should this work??

    thanks....

2175.1It works for me.WEODOM::HUDSONsave trees, don't read manualsThu Apr 06 1995 00:0721
    Today I installed NetRider specifically so I could copy DECbrouter 90
    configurations to my PC. This eventually worked. Some things I found
    that may be helpful to check:

    *	The TFTP client (in this case a DECbrouter) must be set up as a
    	server under the Config pulldown menu. Both the h/w and IP addresses
    	are required.

    *	The filename used must correspond to a file that must already exist in
     	the \NETRIDER\LOAD directory.

    *	I found that the TFTP server could not translate a long (ie. longer
    	than DOS's 8.3) filename to a DOS-compatible one, even though it
    	can do this for DECserver dumps, so the filename referenced by they
    	TFTP client had to be short.

    I hope this is useful input.

    regards
    Scott

2175.2Dump is thereNETCAD::FORINOThu Apr 06 1995 14:0410
    There is dump capability in the NetRider TFTP Server. What type of
    device are you dumping? If the device gives a dump file name that is
    not DOS compatible, you can set up a translation table in the .INI
    file to a DOS compatible file name. I believe this is all explained
    in the online help. The dump file will end up in the directory where
    the TFTP loader resides.

    Let us know if you still have problems.

2175.3Everything is set up.......??SCCAT::MILLERThu Apr 06 1995 15:5113
    Right now, I'm testing the capability using tftp on a DECstation 5000
    running Ultrix 4.4. When I do a "get" from the DECstation, the PC (a
    425SE Laptop) gives me the file I ask for (from the netrider\load
    directory). When I do a "put" of a dos name-compatible file (that
    already exists in netrider\load), I get "Error code 2: File access
    violation" on the DECstation (the same type of message that a Cisco
    4000 gave me earlier this week when I tried to dump a config file to
    it). The tftp request/response counters increment, the file access
    date/time changes on the laptop, but no data is transferred. It just
    sounds like, even though the file is marked as write-access, it isn't.
    The server MAC/IP is configured for the DECstation.

    Kinda puzzling........
2175.4Some clarification....SCCAT::MILLERThu Apr 06 1995 15:583
    As a clarification, the Cisco 4000 gave me the error message when I
    tried to dump its config file to the laptop, the same basic thing I'm
    trying to do with the DECstation.
2175.5Any More Ideas???SCCAT::MILLERThu Apr 13 1995 00:021
    Does anyone have any more ideas on this?

    Check out note 122.4 in the TOOK::NETRIDER (hit KP7) conference, regarding
    problems with TFTP dumps. This might answer your problems.

    Regards,

2175.8It's OK, BUT.......SCCAT::MILLERThu May 25 1995 15:133
    Yes, it works fine with restricted set to 1. HOWEVER, remember to set
    it back to 0 to run Hubloader (or put ALL the firmware file names in
    the config files list)!
2175.9LOADER.INI entry errorZPOVC::PARRYCHUAParry Chua @ZPO, 65-3306311Wed Jun 28 1995 08:359
    I have fun working with the DUMP for the DECservers and it was the
    LOADER.INI entry error.

    For example, the dump file entry WW_08002bxxxxxx.DUMP is wrong and
    should say WW08002bxxxxxx while xxxxxx is the last 6 hex address for
    the DECservers.

    Regards
