2156.0. "Problems with HUBwatch & 900EF" by ANGLIN::CLAYTON (Merlin Clayton (314)947-6763) Thu Mar 30 1995 12:44

I'm having problems with Hubwatch V3.1 managing a DECswitch 900 EF in
the 900MS hub.

The 900MS is at firmware level 2.2, and the 900EF is at the current
firmware level which I think is 1.4.

The problems are...
 1. The switch icon on the LAN View screen is blank - no ID like the other
    modules.

 2. When I try to look into the 900EF by double clicking on it, I get the
message from HUBwatch that the unit failed to respond.

 3. I cannot connect any of the 900EF Ethernet stubs to any of the 900MS
backplane channels. Every time I try, I get an "Add Failed" msg.
Connecting the FDDI stub works OK.

 4. The status indicator LED on the 900ef is flashing. The doc does not
really give a reason for that, but suggests that it's probably OK.

I'm assuming that the problem with the 900ef is probably related to the fact
that the 900MS firmware is out of rev, and I am trying to get it upgraded.
However, if there is something else that I'm overlooking, I would appreciate
any suggestions.

Thanks.

Merlin

Take a peek at note 1951 & replies. It's a known problem with
    HUBwatch.

1951 only covers the blank icon.

All the other symptoms suggest either broken hardware or out-of-rev firmware.
