2018.0. "RMON in ONcore" by MQOOA::POISSANT () Wed Feb 15 1995 15:40

    I have a customer looking at the ONcore from Chipcom. We want to
    position the DEChub 900 against it but I need to known the details on
    the implementation of probing (RMON support) it can do and how our
    DECpacketprobe compares to it.

    Any info will be appreciated,

2018.1Asking a little bit more ?KETJE::VANDENBERG_RThu Feb 16 1995 05:2813
		Can I extend a little bit the request.
	What is our overall position with RMON
	Regarding the weak support we receive for this product does it means
	that we will totally review the way RMON will be implemented in our
	product.
	A la Chipcom, where it can be integrated into the module itself
	or
	A specific module that can be switched to any IMB's regarding the
	technology used (ENET-TR-FDDI etc)

	For any reply,
	Thanks in advance,
	Robert

       right now
      Oncore Rmon daughterboard implement only 4 or 5 group [ i think 5 for
       T/R).

      daughterboard must reside on Motherboard (T/R repeater, ETH repeater
      or processor board) versus anywhere on the network for packetprobe90.

      if you want more informations ,
      i have some documentations referring On-core family

    Can a customer manage all Ethernet/Token Ring segments in the Oncore
    using only the daughterboard or is it like the packetprobe90 (only
    where it is attached)?

 Customer must move the daughterboard to the lan that he will tune
  (it's a logical move using console command)

2018.5Looks like we have an edge on ChipcomNAC::FORRESTMon Mar 13 1995 20:5215
    I know that Chipcom uses AXON's technology, but for the OnLine, I think
    they only resell AXON's standalone probe - i.e. you cannot put it in
    the hub. I know it is more integrated in the OnCore, but am not sure
    of the capability. If it offers only some groups, then that does not
    compare very well with the DECpacketprobe functionality.

    Frontier's technology, used in the DECpacketprobe and PROBEwatch,
    compares favorably to AXON. We can give you statistics higher up the
    protocol stack than can AXON.

    We are working on a solution for monitoring the DEChub 900 backplane
    Ethernet segments.
