1967.0. "use of Disconnect function for FDDI concentrator" by TLSE01::SELLES (Pierre-Jean - Toulouse -France) Mon Feb 06 1995 15:15

testing FDDI concentrator in a customer premises , i relate
its comments :

for the FDDI CONC900MX , it is possible from Hubwatch
to DISCONNECT the module : why no RECONNECT button ?

for each port i can enable/disable the port :
before connecting a station , do i have to disable the port ?
if i connect a station , and the status is disconnected ,
is a PHY LCT done ?
if i disconnect a station , is it "gracefully" , that is
there is no Beacon process ?

	thanks for your answers

I don't know why there is no reconnect button. Its a good question.

    For the ports:

    1) You do not have to disable a port before making a connection.
Just plug in the cable, or, if in the backplane, configure the ICONs
and connect them to the appropriate LAN.

    2) If the port is disconnected, when the cable is inserted into the
connector, there will be no attempt to make a connection. If the cable
is plugged into the port, and hubwatch is subsequently used to enable
the port a connection will be made, and LCT will run as part of that
    sequence of events.

    3) When a station is disconnected there will be no beaconing in a
properly operating ring. There will be a scrubbing of the ring, which
will cause the rmaining stations in the ring to claim. If you are
receiving questions about "graceful insertion" look in other notes in
the FDDI conference for discussions of that topic.
is used to connect the port,

The reset button provides the functionality of a "reconnect" button
    after a disconnect.

1967.3ok for disconnect , still "disable/enable" questionTLSE01::SELLESPierre-Jean - Toulouse -FranceThu Feb 09 1995 06:5515

thanks for the clarification about disconnect and reset

now , Bill , just to be sure about "enable/disable" function ,

each time this function is applied , a claim process is going to start
as there is no "graceful" insertion/removal of a station ?

 is all this correct ?

	thanks for your answers

Yes, each time a station enters/leaves the ring a claim will start.
