1940.0. "MANAGEWORKS and HUBwatch problem" by WELSWS::GREENR (Curiosity Killed The Cat) Thu Jan 26 1995 19:27

Has anyone else out there tried using the latest version of ManageWORKs
    yet ?

It seems really quite good and everything works fine (allbeit a bit
buggy) bar the event dispatcher which complains it can't talk to TCP.
I therefore can't setup polling etc.

IP discovery, HUBwatch launching etc works fine.

    Hi,

I've tried ManageWORKS: I'm on the development team :^).

Are you running the SSB version? (What's the date on your mibbrow.exe
    file in \mworks?).

Which TCP/IP stack are you using?

What is the exact error message you're getting?

Feel free to send me mail at TOOK::DITMARS or call me at 226-5438.
I don't regularly read this notesfile, so I may not catch your response
if you only post it here.

I'd also like to hear about whatever bugs you're encountering.

    regards,

    Pete

Hi Pete

From note 1940.1. I loaned a copy of the same version of Manageworks
and he has had a similar problem.

The error response was:- "Event dispatch unable to set up tcp/ip port
Stop unable to communicate with event dispatcher"

The tcp stack is Hubwatch v3.1. The MIBBROW.exe is 12/12/94

Any help would be apreciated

Hi John,

A couple of things:

  1) the IP stack in HUBwatch V3.1 isn't good enough. The next release of
HUBwatch will have an IP stack that will be good enough. If possible,
upgrade to one of the supported stacks (e.g. PATHWORKS V5.1 + patches on
     the ManageWORKS kit).

  2) Your ManageWORKS kit is old too. Attached is the network pointer to the
     SSB kit.

  3) Often, the particular problem you're seeing (event dispatcher not able to
set up its port) is caused by the node you're running on not being
     listed in the hosts file.

Hope this helps, let me know if it doesn't.

regards,

Pete

Subject: First Customer Availability of ManageWORKS Workgroup Administrator
   		and Software Developer's Kit

This memo documents the official availability of ManageWORKS
Workgroup Administrator for customer shipment, today, Friday,
January 34, 1995. The ManageWORKS Software Developer's Kit became
available last Friday, January 27. These products signify some of
the first product entries for the Network Integration Software
Group into the open market software business. This project
started as a grassroots effort this time last year and wasn't
officially made a project until May/June, 1994, which is only
eight months ago!

The next major activity is for the Business and Marketing team to
complete the implementation of the many deliverables and events
associated with a successful announcement and rollout, planned
officially for February 23. Dean McMillin, Faye Allen and her
entire team, including help from all of us, are very busy pulling
all these things together. Field marketing managers around the
globe are involved and excited!

There is alot of interest about this product, from not only our
own field organization, but including the Networks and PC
organizations, some of our key ISVs, and outside companies, in terms
of setting up OEM or bundling arrangements. This will be one of
the next major thrusts for the Business Team, leveraging off the
ongoing work underway by the ISV Team to sign up and integrate more
3rd party products.

Thanks to everyone, both on the team directly and indirectly
across NIS and the other groups that have supported us in
Digital. But mostly the team, who worked long hours, weekends,
and with professionalism as well as humor. My personal thanks!

For those of you outside the group, we have set up a public
access location for information and the product kits for internal
use and customer demonstrations.

Note that there is also a "working model" kit with an expiration date,
etc., that can be given to customers. Contact me if interested.

    Sorry,
I've been so long in replying to this note I've been on the road a
lot recently and just havn't had a chance.
My problem was due to the fact that I did not have an entry in the
hosts file for my own PC... ie its name and ip address. Apparently
the HUBwatch install doesnot automatically do this, someone else also
informed me that the Pathworks install doesn't do it either.
