1908.0. "DEF1H Configuration " by ATHINA::MAVRANDONIS () Thu Jan 19 1995 05:17

    Hello

I am trying to designe a simple configuration with Switch/Bridge 900EFs
using HUB ONE configuration. I want to use the DEF1H docing station.
    The questions are:

    1. By using the DEF1H's FDDI A and B ports do I have the 900EF's FDDI
ports available, if yes how I can use them ( to connect another FDDI
    Device)?

    2. What about the "piggy backing" of one DEF1H onto another? do I have
    another pair of FDDI ports?

    3. Is there a manual of the DEF1H in the network?

    Thanks in advance
    DENNIS

i think you can only use the FDDI port of DEF1H on PEswitch900 (firmware
   problem).

for Decswitch900EF in Stand-alone connection you must use the Front panel
port until a new release of firmware

      ^^^^^^^
         ?

There is no known firmware problem associated with the current release
of the PEswitch 900TX which would impact the use of FDDI in a DEF1H.
There *is* only FDDI out the rear (backplane connectors) of a PEswitch
900TX anyhow. Front panel connectors on a PEswitch 900TX are 6 ports
    of Ethernet UTP.
Jean-Yves is correct on the second comment. The DECswitch 900EF will
support FDDI in a DEF1H, and the HUB, both in the next wave firmware
    release.

    Hi all,

Installation Manual of the DEF1H is on TNPUBS::Public$disk:
Dont remember the exact path but the filename is EK-DEF1H-IN.PS

  in fact,the real sentence is

for the moment you can use only the DEF1H Fddi ports on PEswitch900

1908.5DEF1H with concentrator 900MX - no FDDI ?BRIEIS::BARKER_Etest dummyFri Jan 27 1995 10:4318
    Hi,

This has got me worried, I have just proposed a config. using
DEF1H's with DEConcentrator 900MX's and DECswitch 900EF's, with a plan
to use the FDDI ports supplied by the DEF1H to provide a Single Mode
Fibre connection. Is the situation in .-1 correct, that this wouldn't currently
work ? If so, when are the next wave of firmware releases due ?

Following on from this, can the DEF1H provide two SMF mod PMD's or
is it subject to the same limitation as the DECconcentrators in that
the slot next to the SMF PMD is unusable. This doesn't effect the
config as we've worked around it but it would be useful to know. The
diagram in the installation guide puts the two FDDI slots pretty close
    together.

    	Thanks,

1908.6Any advantage of DEF1H vs DEHUA for DEF6X?36932::STUARTScott Stuart - NPB SE - 410.315.9954Fri Jan 27 1995 14:0717
    1) For a DEF6U-MA or DEF6M-MA (DECconcentrator 900MX) - is there any
advantage to using the DEF1H vs the DEHUA for current firmware support?
In other words is thate any advantage to using the higher powered
docking station for UTP or for MMF or even SMF?

    2) If I use the the DEHUA + DEFBM-MA then I should get by default
configuration on the front panel ports:

    A M M M M B

or a 4 port DAC - Is this correct?

    3. Can I turn this into a 5 port Single Attached Conc? A M M M M M

    thanks

    re .6

    1) If all you need are 6 ports, use the cheaper docking station.

    2) Yes, this is correct

    3) You will be able to get 5 M ports in the upcoming release. I
will not comment on when that release will occur. Contact Karl
    Pieper for that info.
