1885.0. "DecAgent90 in HUB & P/Supply!!" by WARFUT::NAEEM () Fri Jan 13 1995 12:11

    	A DecHub90 had the following config:
    	1 DecAgent+DecBridge90FL+3DecRepeater90C+DecRepeater90FA.
    Agent in Slot 7,DB90FL in slot 8,Repeater90FA in Slot 8(AUI port
    not being used).
    HubWatch will only display Decagent and nothing else.
    The console to Decagent will not display anything.
    The Power Supply swapped fixed the problem.
    	Can someone explain why & how P/Supply would interfere with
    DecAgent90 or HubWatch??What mechanism Agents uses to talk to
    modules in the HUB??
    	Thanks for any information.

Naeem,

That's a neat trick, two devices in the same slot! :-) I'll assume you mean
the repeater is in a lower slot (1-6) since you're not using the AUI.

Anyway, there could be any one of a hundred reasons why the power supply will
cause problems in the hub, not the least of which is insufficient power to allow
the serial management bus to work properly. This would certainly cause the
DECagent to be unable to "see" anything in the hub. The fact that you could not
get anything at the DECagent console leads me to believe that +12V was not being
supplied by the power supply, as the DB25 connector on the front panel of the
DECagent requires this.

There are lots of notes in this conference that explain how the DECagent manages
devices in the hub using the serial management bus.

    	Roger ,
    		You are right;90FA is in Slot 1.
    Regarding"The console to Decagent will not display anything",what I
    meant to say was this;
    	I can talk to Agent using console and can configure it.And when
    I ask it to display community it only shows itself,nothing else.So as
    you explained it got to be something else than 12V.
    	Thanks for your reply.
