1865.0. "Greater > 8 Ethernets in 900MS" by NCMAIL::SCHEID () Tue Jan 10 1995 19:06

    When will the 900MS backplane support more than eight(8) ethernets...
    Any ballpark estimate would be appreciated. My customer has a
    requirement for 9 Ethernets...

         Well lets see. First it doesn't support 8 across the backplane
    today. The max is 7 (ThinWire and 6 IMB's). It won't be greater than
    that across the backplane any time in the near future.

         Now if you are willing to make some front panel connections then
    some other possibilities will exist with the wave 3 repeaters.

         You also didn't say whether you need to interconnect these
    Ethernets or whether they will be segregated.

    Using the DECrepeater 90TP, when shipping, you would be able to do in
    hub, what I suggested for a "poor man's hub" in a previous note.

    The first DS 900EF would have all 6 Ethernets into the backplane. A
    second switch would have some of its front panel UTP's connected into
    the front of a per port repeater. This would allow you to have up to
    12 or more Ethernets in a single hub.

    Actually you can to this with the existing 900 repeaters but after
    putting 2 switches in a hub, you can only put in 6 repeaters and hence
    6 Ethernets so really you must wait for the DR 900TP.
