1848.0. "PROBEwatch/Sniffer Capability" by SWANDC::MAUTZ (Networks >= to DECnet) Thu Jan 05 1995 21:04

    Using PROBEwatch for Windows, I captured a few (400 or so) packets
    and saved them into a file. In the \probew\bin directory is a
    utility called nstosnif.exe that will take this file and convert
    it to a form that the Network General Sniffer will read. However,
    when you read the file in on the Sniffer it reports that every
    packet has a crc error, consequently, the expert analysis routines
    of the Sniffer don't try to analyze the packet.

    I realize that I only saved the first 128 bytes of the packet, but
    it seems to me that there should be some way to "fix up" a crc for
    each packet during the file conversion so that some of the Sniffer's
    advanced features would be useable. Under most circumstances, the
    first 128 bytes will have most of the useful protocol stuff anyway(?).

    Is there a way to work-around this or an enhancement planned??
