1805.0. "querying SNMP values thru the hub manager agent" by TLSE10::SELLES (Pierre-Jean - Toulouse -France) Wed Dec 21 1994 17:36

is it possible to query a module SNMP values going thru the
hub manager , and without setting up an IP address for the module ?

i know that it is certainly the way Hubwatch works , but
we'd like to do it from any SNMP manager ( Netview-like )

for instance , we want to query the FDDI snmp values for
a DECconc900MX ,going thru the hub manager .

are there some tables that we can use from the hub manager agent
to look at what's in a module , and how is it possible ?

	thanks for your help

Yes. Assuming the community string of the Hub Management Module (MAM)
is the default "public", and the device you wish to query is in slot 2,
you should send an SNMP message to the MAM using community "public-2".

(Note, this is known as "snmp gatewaying". Not all modules support
this feature. All 900 modules produced to date support it, except
the DECserver900TM. Many of the newer 90 modules support it.)

Can do. Use community "public-2" if the DEConcentrator900MX is in slot 2.

If you want to see what objects are supported by a module, walk its MIB.
The DEChub900 Chassis MIB contains information about what modules are
currently installed in the hub, how to communicate with the modules,
and some other useful stuff.
