1798.0. "slip connections on 90M" by HITEKS::PEER () Tue Dec 20 1994 22:44

My customer has a 90M module in a DEChub900 and would like all the
ports configured for remote dial in using "slip". I would like a
pointer for the manual that explains how to do this configuration.
Everything that I see hear references a slip connection for the OBM
port. I'm sure the procedure is similiar....but I can't find the
document that explains how to do this. Any help would be greatly
    appreciated.

    Still hubbing in NJ...

If you want fast reliable slip then don't use a DS90M for
remote (Modem) access. PPP should be OK as PPP can use XON/XOFF flow
    control.

Slip requires hardware handshake especially when using modem
compression, and using the DTR/DSR signals (readyin/readyout) for
handshake doesn't leave any signals for modem control of the dial-up
connections in the DS90M or DS90TL.

Why they use an 8 pin RJ45 socket and then only use six of those pins
is beyond my imagination, but if you need a hub based solution then
use the DS900TM , standalone you could use either the DS700 8 or 16
port Terminal Server al running NAS 1.4 software if you have more than
one meg of memory in the DS700's.

If slow speeds <9600 baud and no modem compression are used then
it may be possible to use the DS90M without flow control to control a
modem and reset the port when the connection is lost.

The DS90M was designed as a local (not remote) Terminal Server
due to its only using readyin/readyout with no other modem control signals.
