1784.0. "NDUplus (VMS) pointers are incorrect ??" by BLKPUD::WARNESG (Mae hen iaith y Cymry more fyw ag erioed) Thu Dec 15 1994 11:43

    Note 1505 & it's replies detail the location of the NDUplus for VMS
    kits. However, am I right in thinking that the pre-VMS
    5.5 and post-VMS 5.5 are mixed up ?

    Directory NETCAD::PROJ$706:[NDU.V3.RELEASE.VMS.POST_VMS_5_5]
                                                   ----
    NDUPLUS010.A;1          576

    Total of 1 file, 576 blocks.

    Directory NETCAD::PROJ$706:[NDU.V3.RELEASE.VMS.PRE_VMS_5_5]
                                                   ---
    NDUPLUS010.A;1 594 <---- larger size usually indicates later
                                      version ??

    Total of 1 file, 594 blocks.

    I installed the post 5.5 kit on a 5.5-2 system and got errors with id
    mismatches on certain shareable images. I then installed the pre 5.5
    kit on the same system and no errors occurred.

    Have the savesets been mixed up ?

Graham,

   The directory names are somewhat confusing. The kit in the PRE_VMS_5_5
directory are actually for VMS *prior* to V5.5 (V5.4-x and earlier) while the
kit in the POST_VMS_5_5 directory is for VMS V5.5 and later. The version
mismatch is due to a link library issue between V5.4 and V5.5 of VMS.

   Wow, do people really still believe this? Man, so much for code reduction
and performance enhancing efforts. :-} At any rate, this is not VMS. We don't
*have* to get bigger just because it's a new version! If it matters, the reason
the post V5.5 kit is smaller is because support for LMF was removed thus
eliminating a fair amount of unused code.
