1682.0. "decndup /s error during read device" by DRAC::DSMAIL () Fri Nov 11 1994 08:49

    	Hello,

    	Before upgrading DA90 to 2.1.3 version I tried to get the status
    	with the a:\> decndup /s <MAC address> and I got the following error

    	Digital.....(banner)
    	DECnduPlus: Error during read device
    	DECnduPlus: receive error

    	if I performed

    	a:\> decndup /s <IP address>,  I got the following

    	Digital.....(banner)
    	[SYSDESCR] Getting Device INFO (SysDescr)
    	DECnduPlus: No response from device

    	Fortunately the down line load ran OK, but I was temporarely afraid
    	with a non-communication problem....

    	After the upgrade the behaviour was the same.

    	In the same customer I tried to do the same with DB90 with no
    	problems.

    	Any known problem?

1682.1Do not use the Ethernet address for anything but the DECbridge 90/90FLROGER::GAUDETBecause the Earth is 2/3 waterFri Nov 11 1994 13:2813
The DECagent 90 supports the DECndu 'show' command using only the IP address.
Only the DECbridge 90/90FL supports the 'show' command using the Ethernet
address.

I know of no problems with DECndu which would result in the behavior you have
seen. Assuming proper IP connectivity (a big assumption sometimes) you should
get a valid response using the DECndu 'show' command with the IP address. Given
the fact that the upgrade completed successfully, there is no reason why the
'show' command should fail. In fact, an upgrade using the '/f decagent' switch
does two 'show' commands, one before the upgrade and one after. I presume those
both showed the expected response?

1682.2no MAC address for decndup /s on DA90DRAC::DSMAILFri Nov 11 1994 14:5710

    Roger,

    OK, no MAC address should be used for DA; i've tried in another site.
    with IP address works in this site but not in yesterday's.
    Moreover I used
    a:\> decndup /u /v /i /n <MAC Address> c:\firmware\denma021.sys
    for downloading.

1682.3MOP load vs. TFTP loadROGER::GAUDETBecause the Earth is 2/3 waterFri Nov 11 1994 15:5115
Jordi...

DECagent 90's with V2.0 and later firmware support both MOP (MAC address) and
TFTP (IP address) downline upgrades. DECagent 90's running V1.1 support MOP
only. DECndu does things very differently depending on whether it is doing a
MOP or TFTP load. There is no implicit 'show' command when doing a MOP load.
However, for most of the devices which support TFTP, the 'show' command is an
integral part of the script that executes when the load takes place (that's what
the '/f' switch does). You will notice that you do not specify the '/f' switch
when doing a MOP load.

I still do not understand why you cannot get a response from the 'show' command
at the other site when using the IP address.
