1627.0. "SUBNET MASKS on 900MS & modules" by SNOC02::CALEYJASON (The truth although interesting, is irrelevant.) Fri Oct 28 1994 00:08

    Hi,

I am wondering if there is any planned support to include specific
subnet mask allocation on the Decrepeater 900TM and 90TS modules.

Presently, a module can be assigned and OBM or In-Band address and a
Gateway address. There is no option for the subnet mask.

The reason I ask is because I have a partner who is looking to have the
Dechub900 point to a Gateway with an address of 146.11.99.255

Presently, the hub considers a host address of 255 to be invalid.
However, when using a subnet mask of 255.255.248.0, this is legitimate.
If the firmware was capable of supporting user-variable subnet masks
then the problem should be solved.

Any details on this support or a workaround would be great. The gateway
already services approximately 200 others devices on this network so
changing the gateway address/masks are not considered viable.

    Thanks and regards,

    Jason Caley,
    Network Products Business.

Hello,

Yes. In the next version there will be setup-port option to give
devices a subnet mask.

Re .1

Can you be more specific on which version will have the Subnet mask feature.

We have alot of customers asking for this.

There's no way to predict the version number for any product, since we
generate the version numbers as we go along - the number of the
released version is (in part) a function of how many times we had to
spin the release to get it through the test cycle.

This feature is being implemented in code common to almost all the hub
products, so it should appear in the next 'major' release of each
product. Watch the release notes when they come out.

There is a reorganization of the relevant setup menus that goes with
the change, so you won't miss it...

As for giving out time frames, we try hard not to do that...

And as usual if you must have a timeframe to work with, contact product
