1543.0. "Server 900TM power up problems" by SCCAT::SHERRILL () Mon Oct 10 1994 18:07

We have been staging and installing DEChub 900's with sever 900 TM's
for a customer , We have seen several 900 TM's that were very hard
to get to power up and a few have refused to power up. The micro switch
is o.k. as far as I could tell . Has anyone seen the problem with the
900 TM's not powering up?? Other slots have been tryed to no aval ,
also the pins on the back have been inspected . A few have done this
after running burn in and being shipped to the customers remote site.

Can I assume that you have enough power supplies to power all
of the DECserver900TMs, and that the Hub Manager display is indicating
that there's enough power available?

Try and determine if the microswitch is indeed getting activated. With
the module out of the hub press the lever down with your finger and
listen. You should be able to hear the switch click with only a little
pressure on the switch. If the lever bottoms out with no click that is
the likely problem. Also make sure when you insert a module into
the hub that you press the release lever on the hub all the way down.
Don't depend on gravity or spring pressure to do it.

Where by chance are you located?

RE. 1 the hubs have been shipping with 4 power modules

RE. 2 I have played with the micro switch and was able to hear it
click as I pushed the lever down, but the server still did
    	   not power up.
I am located in the Santa Clara office , we have been doing
    	   staging in the Sunnyvale DLO

No.

What does the Hub Manager display say is going on when you insert and
remove modules?
