1444.0. "IPX problem on DecBridge 900MX" by COMBAT::JONSSON (Lars Jonsson) Mon Sep 19 1994 15:30

Hi,

A customer has a DECbridge 900MX connected to an FDDI ring. There are Novell
servers connected on FDDI-side. Clients are communicating with the servers via
the UTP ports on the 900MX. The protocol is SPX, an IPX-protocol he told me,
wich is used for printing and remote consol.

Problem: When he tries to print from a client, small files works OK, but with
larger files, communication is lost for approx. 30 seconds.

The bridge is standalone and the customer has no Hubwatch (I recommended him to
by it). The customer is getting back to me about firmware revision.

Greatful for any hints on this ...
/Lars

Are the Novell clients using "raw 802.3 IPX" mode? If so, set the
"raw 802 IPX" switch on the DB900MX to "enabled" using HUBwatch (or
via SNMP if you don't have HUBwatch). A better solution
would be to configure the clients to use Ethernet encapsulation,
in which case the raw IPX switch must be set to disabled (default
on the bridge). Ethernet encapsulation is much more robust on
Novell - the "raw 802.3" is illegal.
