1365.0. "96 JAM message on DEChub900" by KERNEL::MCSKEANEP (one bit brain with parity error) Wed Aug 31 1994 15:58

    Hello,

Can anybody translate the error message '96 JAM' on a DEChub900
    Please.

I have a customer who has newly installed a DEChub900 with the
    following modules...

    Slots 1 and 2 DECrepeater900TM
    Slots 6, 7 and 8 DECrepeater90C

As the LCD display scrolls, against each 90C there is a '96 JAM'
message. He thought it was due to the fact that none of the 90C ports
were terminated but I tried it on our hub and the 90C quite happily
reported as 'up' on the LCD display.

To me the error indicates a problem with the 90C modules and that each
port is jamming to stop whatever error is occuring from propagating
over the rest of the network.

I've pulled the documentation regarding the hub from TNPUBS but nothing
shed any light on this message.

    Thanks in advance,

    POL.

The newer DECrepeater 90 modules use 96 jam bits instead of 128.
I think that all that the MAMs LCD display is indicating is that
your customer has a 96 jam bit version of the module.

Paul,

That is not an error message. The top line of the LCD display is the
product name. The bottom line is the operStatus reported by the
module or "unknown" if the hub is unable to communicate with the
module. The DECrepeater 90 modules can use either 96 Jam Bits or
128 Jam Bits. It is a function of the hardware. If the customer
had a 128 Jam Bit DECrepeater 90C the product name would have been
displayed as "DECrepeater 90C". The 96 Jam Bit repeaters, unfortunately,
display the message that you saw. You must have V2.2.1 for your hub
firmware. It looks much nicer in V3.0.0. In V3.0.0 the top line
will display "DECrepeater 90C" just like it would for the 128 Jam Bit
repeaters.

Having unterminated ports on the DECrepeater 90C will just cause those
ports to autopartition. This will not be indicated on the hub's LCD.

regards,
Ann Marie
