If you mean a DECbridge 900MX, nope, spanning tree cannot be
disabled. Why would you want to do that?

"Disabling" spanning tree and "turning off" spanning tree are
two very different concepts. By disabling a port on the bridge,
you disable that port from bridging. This is what the red/green
switch on the port section of the HUBwatch bridge summary view
gives you. One reason to disable a bridge port is to segment a
problematic part of the extended LAN from the rest.

"Turning off" spanning tree on a port says that you continue
bridging on it but don't participate in the spanning tree algorithm,
that is, neither process received hellos nor send out any. The
current version of the bridge does not allow you to do this, but
it's on the list for a future version. (It is something that few
customers want, since with the algorithm turned off you neither have
loop protection nor backup capability. However it may be useful
to separate "domains" on the same extended LAN.)

1307.3Disable spanning tree is defined in MIB elan v2.9COL01::WELZELUwe Welzel, NIS, CologneFri Nov 04 1994 10:0012
Hello,

again disable spanning tree on DB900MX.
As mentioned in .2 "Turning off" spanning tree is not allowed in the current
bridge version. But in the "Vendor MIB elanext v2.9" is an object for
turning off spanning tree "ebrSpanTurnOff" defined in the "ebridge" group.
When will this function be supported by the DB900MX ?

Thanks in advanced
and best regards
Uwe
