1279.0. "Bridge FDDI to FDDI rings????" by CHELSY::WOODALL (MACRO is the best.) Thu Aug 04 1994 16:20

    Is it possible with the current (or planned) DEChub products to have
    two seperate FDDI rings and bridge them together (NO GIGASWITCH)?

    I would like to have a building wide FDDI ring and then bridge that to
    a site wide FDDI ring.

    Any help is appreciated!

    In order to bridge 2 FDDI LANs together, you need a bridge. The
    GIGAswitch fills that roll. Are you looking for a DEChub 900 FDDI
    bridge module? I mean, do you want the 4-port GIGAswitch card turned
    into a FDDI bridge module for the DEChub 900?

1279.2yes! is it available?CHELSY::WOODALLMACRO is the best.Mon Aug 08 1994 13:499
    Yes! That would work just right! The customer already has DEChub900s
    scattered around and does not want a gigaswitch. They do want to
    bridge the building FDDI ring to the site-wide FDDI ring.
    	Do ya'll already have one of these available?? If not, it will
    probably mean the customer will buy several dozen CISCO 7000s with
    multiple FDDI adapters in each to place in every building.

    Just curious, but why would the customer rule out the GIGASWITCH which
    is the FDDI bridge he is looking for, and buy CISCO 7000 routers? Cost
    alone should be reason to look at the GIGASWITCH.

   I agree with .3 about the right tool for the job - though the GIGAswitch IS
   a bit big....

   Also, to counter the cisco's we should be pushing our DECNIS 600 which has
   FDDI capabilities - though in truth is probably not much smaller than G/S or
   cheaper for that matter.

1279.5anyone got a demo unit??CHELSY::WOODALLMACRO is the best.Mon Aug 08 1994 17:279
    Ok... I don't want the CISCO boxes either!

    Does anyone have a GIGASWITCH to loan out to the customer for 4
    months?? I have shown the customer the GIGASWITCH brochures and some
    documentation several times. Without a demo unit I doubt they will
    even consider it.
