1229.0. "BDECbridge900 looses information" by ZUR01::SCHNEIDERR () Fri Jul 15 1994 12:57

Hello,

When you remove a HUB900 module, the backplaneconnections are reseted. All the
connections are disconnected from the IMBs and the thinwire-channel. Thats fine
and thats o.k.

But at some bridges I saw that the portselections (frontpannel or backplane) are
resetted to "all ports to frontpannel", too. I saw this now on two customer sites.
But I think I remember, when I played arround here with the bridges, the
information about the port-direction was stored and didn't loose.

At the "looser" bridge we run HW V0/1, RO V0.2, SW V1.2.1

Why??????

The front/back information (which is ligoSubtypeSelect) is
lost when you disconnect the module out of the MAM.

We used to have a console menu to connect to thinwire and
that used to be stored by the module. This is no longer
true. All LAN hopping is done via the MAM and not the console.

Is it possible to change that? We all know that it is a good idea to loose the
backplane connections, but it makes no sense to loose the front/back
information.

The fronbt/back selection is done by the MAM ??????

I don't see the use of keeping front/back information if we lose
	the rest...

The MAM "tells" us (via CSNMP) what to connect to and what is front
vs back. It does NOT (in hardware) control this.
