1132.0. "# of Trap Addresses?" by HGRNCC::FARADAYCHONG (Faraday Chong@hgo 852-8053590) Mon Jun 20 1994 11:10

    The DEChub 900 module such as DECbridge 900MX allows definition of
    more than one SNMP Trap Addresses. I have three questions:

    (1) How many can be defined?

    (2) How would multiple Trap Addresses be used?

    (3) Are the upper limit module specific?

Up to eight. Duplicate addresses are not allowed.

Customers who have more than one Network Management Station would find
multiple trap addresses useful. For example, customers that have HubWatch
and an enterprise NMS like PolyCenter Netview may want traps delivered to
both.

When a trap is to be sent, the Agent iterates on each address in the
trap table - sending the trap to up to 8 trap sinks.

> (3) Are the upper limit module specific?

No. The limit is module independent. All current DEChub900 modules use
the same SNMP agent. It's the agent that imposes the 8 trap sink limit.

1132.2Are Trap Addresses Global?HGRNCC::FARADAYCHONGFaraday Chong@hgo 852-8053590Mon Jun 20 1994 13:2012
    A follow-on question.

    The upper limit (8) is global. Are those eight Trap Addresses global to
    all modules or per module? I am think of different set of Trap Addresses
    per module, each may have up to 8.

1132.3Per module. (Per agent.)NACAD::GALLAGHERMon Jun 20 1994 14:125

Per module. You can use a different set of trap addresses per module.
