1051.0. "Alarms set up procedures?" by WARABI::CHIUANDREW () Wed Jun 01 1994 06:22

    Hi,

I try to set up alarms trap with Hubwatch V3.0 for OpenVMS, but cannot
have any traps received from DECagent90.

    Steps:
    1) Set up trap address on DECagent90 (so that it will send to
    HUBwatch).
    2) Start Hubwatch V3.0, using $watch/agent da90b (I have already
defined an entry for da90b in hubwatch_agents.dat) with the RW
    community.
    3) Start the alarm setup via the applications sub-menu, then
    	a) Start Poller
    	b) Start Viewer
    	c) Select alarmed agent with TRAP=ON and selected. But, I cannot
change the Polling interval and also I did not get the config/alarms
options as stated in HUBwatch V3.0 p4-3.

Could someone advise me the correct procedures for set up alarms viewer
    with HUBwatch V3.0?

    Thanks

Andrew,

It appears the steps you've taken are correct. Although, you shouldn't
need to do step 1. HUBwatch will set your station's IP address in the
agent's trap table for you.

In 3c) you mention that you don't get the config/alarms as stated in
the documentation. This is mentioned in the release notes, the artwork
was incorrect. Also you are not allowed to modify the polling interval,
it is greyed out, there should also be no documentation found about the
polling interval (as it is currently unsupported).

Now, have you done anything in your hub that would cause a trap to be
sent out? If you disable a repeater port, remove or add a module, etc,
a trap would be issued. For a complete listing of the traps the DECagent 90
now supports please see the MIB.

Also, looking at your note, did you "Apply" the traps = on selection? If you
did this correctly, the next time you bring up the alarm setup window,
the entry for da90b will have traps = on.

If these things are setup, and a trap has been sent, but
you didn't receive it, give me a call or send me e-mail.

1051.2It works after re-start UCX!WARABI::CHIUANDREWWed Jun 01 1994 23:5714
    re .1,

    Thanks for your quick response!

After I re-start UCX (V2.0D), and delete all
HWPOLLER/HWLOGGER/HWVIEWERs, then I can re-do what I 've done (start
Poller, select trap, start viewer) and this time, I get SNMP traps from
    the DECagent90 (V2.1.3).

I still do understand why it works after I re-start UCX, is there any
problem with UCX V2.0D or should I upgrade to V3.0?

    Anyway thanks for advise.

  re. -1

As far as I know there shouldn't be any problems running with UCX V2.0D.
In fact, I think we have systems here running 2.0D and I don't
  think we've had this problem.

  Well, at least it's working.
