917.0. "Ethernet Segment Assigment ???" by BOHIO::WROSARIO () Thu Apr 21 1994 18:57

    I'm working in a configuration of Family 900, HUB's, Servers, 10BaseT
Repeaters, Bridges and Fiber optic Repeaters. We found information
about the # of ethernet segments and also how to assign some of the
previous equipment to different Ethernet segments. But still one
problem. The customer wants two 10baseT repeaters assign to one
segment and two Decservers 900 to a different segment. The devices to
be connected to the servers will be connecting to an Alpha System,
which they want it to be in the same segment as the Servers.

If we connect the Alpha via a 10BaseT connection, can Hubwatch assign a
PORT to a different segment? For example, the 10BaseT repeaters are
connected in Segment A and the Servers on Segment B. The Alpha can be
connected to the repeater, 10BaseT, but the port can be assign to a
different segment, B, when the repeater was assign to segment A?

Or I have to add/include another devices which allows the ALpha
connection and to be define to Segment B.

Right now the Hub 900 that we are talking have two 10BaseT repeaters,
two Decservers 900, One Fiber Optic Repeater FL and one Decbridge 90FL.

    regards,

The DECrepeater 900TM can only have its 32 ports assigned to one
channel. There will a repeater in the future that will have 10baset
ports than can be grouped and lan hopped on a per port basis. The
soon to ship DR 900FP (12 port fiber) can lan hop on a per pair
of ports basis so it would do what you want but only with fiber
    connections.
