899.0. "help..." by DPDMAI::DAVIES (Mark, SCA Area Network Consultant) Tue Apr 12 1994 16:03

I am having some trouble with HUBwatch for WIndows V2.0. This is my
first attempt with HUBwatch, so I could be ingnorant. I have the
manuals, but still I am confused.

    I have a DEChub 900 with:

    	DECrepeater 900TM
    	DECserver 900TM
    	WANrouter 90
    	DECrepeater 90T
    	DECrepeater 90C
    	DECserver 90TL

I can click on the DR900TM, DR90T and DR90C and I get a nice management
    window displayed.

The WR90 doesn't work, but we haven't DLL'd it yet.

I get error messages when I click on the DS900TM, DS90TL and WR90.

    The error is:

No agent specified for the slot address - please include
MAC address in the agent file entry for this device.

I have tried doing this but I just can't seem to get it correct. I
have the MAC addresses and the following is what is in my file now:

      16.45.80.51 scahub900 "public" 5 2 AGENT900

Where/how do I enter this info?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Re: terminal servers:
READ the HUBwatch config manual. It's a *very* well written
document that explains both in tables (for people who like
tables) and in flowcharts (for people who like flowcharts)
how to configure your hub and your agents file. In there you
will find a section on how to setup for managing the terminal
servers. (Or you can look through this notes file for the
thirty or forty places which has the same information.)

Re: WANrouter 90:
The manuals also mention there is no support for the WANrouter 90.
The WANrouter 90 is not manageable through SNMP.

899.3PINGs don't make it back...DPDMAI::DAVIESMark, SCA Area Network ConsultantWed Apr 13 1994 16:5330
Ok, I have followed all the charts and instructions and I have set up
the IP address and mask on both DECservers (90TL & 900TM), enabled SNMP
and set the community to "public".

I have a new problem. WHen you double-click on the DECservers you get
the message back "No response from the Agent".

So, when I attempted to "ping" these 2 units I got nothing, ie,
time-out. SO then I pinged the DECub 900 address and the DECrepeater
900TM and both of them answered just fine.

So, I login to the DECservers and check their Internet Counters and I
find that they have received AND replyed to (ICMP counters) the same
number of pings which I sent from my workstation.

My workstation can successfully ping the DEChub 900 and DR900TM. I
have all the masks set identically, all have "public" as the comunity
    string, etc.

The only thing I did for the DEChub and DR900TM, is that you are asked
to enter the address of the router which is between you and your
workstation. The DECservers did not ask for this info, the best I can
    tell.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark

It is fixed. All it took was reading the NAS manual manual. It
describes how to set up the gateway, using the command:

    	CHANGE INTERNET GATEWAY gateway-address

    Thanks for the help.
