803.0. "DECpacketprobe 90 & node names?" by STRWRS::KOCH_P (It never hurts to ask...) Tue Mar 08 1994 17:30

How does a DPP90 learn the node names of the systems on the network?
Does it have an inquiry ability to either a DECnet database or a TCP/IP
database or do the name have to be created by hand?

803.1IP address to name translation is automatic, but not DECnetNAC::FORRESTWed Mar 09 1994 17:4915
PROBEwatch Version 1 on ULTRIX does a mathmatical translation of
MAC address to DECnet address. It does not make an automatic
translation of the DECnet address to the DECnet name. It does look
in the local file for IP address and name translation, and it is a
simple matter to copy a DNS name space to your local node so that
you have all the latest and correct info. I say it's simple because
I've seen it done - I can't tell you how; perhaps someone else can
post a note here to describe how to do so.

You can manually edit the PROBEwatch names and create your own
	address to name translation table.

We know that we need to make this automatic for all the common
	protocols.
