786.0. "fddi 900MX to 900MX" by WOTVAX::CLOWESC (Colin Clowes) Thu Mar 03 1994 11:26

Hi,

Can I do this:

<-DEChub900-->	      <-------------DEChub900------------->	 <-DEChub900-->

DECbridge900mx<------>DECbridge900mx<------>DECbridge900mx<------>DECbridge900mx
		  ^			^		      ^
	FDDI link | backplane FDDI | FDDI link |

I have attempted to draw: 2 DECbridge 900mx's with a FDDI backplane connection
in a central hub, each 900MX has a external FDDI connection to another
DECbridge900 mx in a hub.

Can I connect the ())MX bridges to each other, or do I need a concentrator ?

I have looked at various config questions and guides but non seem to answer this
specific configuration.

Thanks

Colin

    You will be able to do this when support for FDDI Lan Hopping is
    released (note that early ship bridges and concentrators will require a
    firmware upgrade).

    In fact, we are in the process of rewiring our own network here in
    DEChub Engineering doing exactly that (if it doesn't work - we'll be
    the first to know).

    A small correction to Scott's answer: "early ship" bridges already have
    the feature. You do need to wait for released HUBwatch support.

    If you ever hear people talk about "A/B path split" then this is
    what they are referring to. That is, for example, port A could be on
    the front panel while port B is on the backplane. The FDDI wiring for
    the config comes in to one module, and leaves via another!

    In your config with the 3 bridges on one DEChub, A of the one on the
    left could get the incoming FDDI connection and B on the B/P, middle
    one with both on the B/P, right one with A on B/P and B supplying the
    outgoing FDDI. Part ofthe dual ring is now inside the DH900.
