684.0. "Front ports of DECbrige 900" by LYOISA::CROZET () Wed Feb 02 1994 12:31

    Could somebody explain me, what I can connect to, with the 6 front ports
    of the DECbridge 900MX:
    I think I can connect to various type of ethernet networks using the 2
    AUI ports with the correct MAU ( thin,thick,10baseT) .
    Can I connect directly a station on the 4x10base T or can I connect to a
    10base T repeater ?
    				Thanks for help

    The AUI interfaces can go to thickwire transceivers or, using adapters,
    to any other ethernet medium.

    The thinwire ports can go to an endstation or a repeater. The port on
    the bridge is crossed, so for our repeaters you would use a straight
    through cable (because the repeater port is not crossed). For an end
    station, which like the bridge would normally have a crossed port, you
    would use a crossed cable. You need an odd number of crosses.

    Don't you mean the RJ45 ports?

    According to Ed Buzzell, the RJ45 ports on the DB900 are straight.
    If you were to put a 10BaseT MAU on the AUI port that should still
    be a straight thru connection. Normally only repeater ports are
    internally crossed (except for our DETPR).

    So going from a DB900 with 10BaseT (either RJ45 or a MAU) to an
    end station you would need a crossed patch cable. But going to
    a repeater (90T or 900TM) you would use a straight cable as the
    repeater has the cross.

    Oops - slip of the keyboard - I did mean the RJ45 10baseT

    The 10BaseT RJ45 ports on DB900MX are crossover connectors.

684.6Cable types that might be needed on 10baseT ports...LEVERS::BATTERSBYWed Mar 02 1994 17:5513
    Types of cables that can be used on DB900MX 10baseT RJ45 ports....
    Depending on whether one needs extra crossover or not.

    Straight cables:

    BN24G-XX  or BN26K-XX

    Cross-over cable:
