646.0. "DEChub one activating module switch problem" by KERNEL::WARDJO () Fri Jan 21 1994 12:30

    Hello,

Has anyone seen any problems with the DEChub one and the Decrepeater
900tm (or any other modules) and activating the power on switch.

A customer reported a problem whereby the DEChub one powered on but not
the DECrepeater90. As we had a DEChub one in the office I tried the
900tm repeater in it and I had the same problem.

I discovered that if I inserted a piece of paper between the Dechub one
and the repeater module onto the switch, the power to the repeater came
    up.
I suggested the customer try this and it worked for him too.

It would appear that the locking L-bracket is not quite long enough.

    Anyone else seen this problem.

    Thanks,

    Jon

The latch on the hub that holds the module in must be depressed fully
to close the hot-swap switch on the module and allow it to power up.

The latches are a little 'sticky' and sometimes must be pressed down
    quite firmly.

One way to verify that the switch is closed is that at the moment it
closes you should see a message on the hub LCD indicating that a module
was inserted in the slot (this message can be overwritten quite quickly
if there are multiple modules inserting together). If you see that
message and the module does not power up, check the power display - if
it shows enough power you may have a problem with the lower connector
on the backplane (the power enable signal is down there). Check the
pins on the module and the alignment of the connector.

We have had situations where hubs were not installed properly such that
they were able to 'flex' slightly and the lower connector was not a
    tight enough fit.

I believe a DEChub one (aka, docking station) has a screwed down
L-shaped piece of metal that activates the modules power supply.

I've seen this is the lab a few times. The fix we used is to
carefully bend up (a tiny bit)) the module's power-activation piece
    of metal.

    Thanks for the replys,

Re .1 - The problem is with the DEChub one - not the Dechub 900.

Re .2 - Is this the fix you recommend for customers?

    Regards,
