538.0. "Hub90 config rules" by COMICS::REYNOLDS (Mad Dogs and Englishmen) Fri Dec 03 1993 15:41

    Hi,

can someone clear up a query around the Dechub90's
    power supply limits:

One of the reasons for the limit of only one Bridge90 as stated in the
installation guide was that the backplane 12v power supply could
    only support one transceiver circuit.
Now that we have repeater modules that use AUI interfaces, I take
it that this rule can no longer be valid

Therefore, how many repeaters (with AUI) can be used in a Dechub
and how many Decbridges? In which slots?
I believe some of the original rules were not so much true but
designed to make sure people didnt configure work groups of >200
nodes. Assuming this is not an issue, what are the 'real' rules
    or a pointer to them

    thanks

John Reynolds, UK CSC, comms support.

538.1Rules! You want rules!CGOS01::DMARLOWEdsk dsk dsk (tsk tsk tsk)Mon Dec 06 1993 15:2012
Only slots 7 and 8 have the 12V required to run the AUI port. You
can therefore put ANY two devices that have AUI ports (or require
additional power, ie. DECagent 90) into these ports. That means two
DECbridge 90's or two DECagent 90's or DECrepeater 90FA's or one
DECbridge 90 and one DECagent 90 or one bridge or agent and a
DECrepeater 90FA, etc. But only slots 7 and 8 for the above
    combinations.

You can put (so I've been told) the DECrepeater 90FA in any slot
if you do not use the AUI port.

There are no such restrictions in the DEChub 900; all slots are equally
    capable.
