527.0. "One OOB to manage all hubs?" by HGRNCC::FARADAYCHONG (Faraday Chong@hgo 852-8053590) Mon Nov 29 1993 10:40

    A question on using Out-Of-Band (OOB) management in multi-hub
    environment.

    In a multi-hub (DEChub 900MS) network, if all the customer wants is OOB
    management, can all hubs be managed via OOB port of one of the DEChub
    900MS? In other words, we want to manage all hubs OOB, but prefer only
    a few hubs have OOB connections (not all hubs, perhaps only two).

    Is this possible?

    If yes, any documenation on how this could done?

    Need more clarifications on OOB capability.

    re .1

    In base note and this note, we assume using any SNMP manager, not
    necessarily HUBwatch. Would the answer different?

    Was it because the OOB port accept only commands directed (based on IP
    destination address) to the hub's out-of-band IP address?

    Would OOB forward packets not destined to OOB IP address through IP
    services, ie, possibility to reach off-hub?

    Nope - same answer...

    Exactly the reason; the hub is a hub, not a router. [To anticipate the
    next question... no, it is not planned]
