442.0. "Need DEChub 900 info Please" by NETXMD::SCHMIDT () Tue Oct 19 1993 16:20

    Bill,

    I've looked through notes, searched VTX, copied files, but can't find
    answers to the following questions:

    - What is the part number for DEChub 900 power supplies ?

    - What are the Ethernet repeater rules for DEChub 900? i.e.: Does
      coming in on one module and going out on another module count as two
      hops ?

    I look forward to hearing from you

    P.S..  When I type:

       COPY TNPUBS::PUBLIC$DISK:[PUBLIC.BG.XXX-UPDATE]README.FIRST *.*

           I get:

       -RMS-E-DNF, directory not found
       -SYSTEM-W-NOSUCHFILE, no such file

 >> - What is the part number for DEChub 900 power supplies ?

	The power supply part number is H7890-MA. The hub ships with 1
	supply, and additional ones can be ordered as needed. I understand
	that the description that comes up on the system does not make it
	clear that the hub includes the power supply, and as soon as I
	figure out what is showing up, I'll send in a change to the
	description.

	The new repeaters will make use of the IRB so that going in a new
	module and out another one will only count as 1 hop. However, if
	you have older 90 modules in the hub, they do not make use of the
	IRB so you would get 2 hops. I.e. if you come in a DETMM and go
	out a DETMM, you count 1 hop. If you come in a DETMM and go out a
	DETMR, you count 2 hops.

Cathy
442.2Hop count depends on connection typeCHUNK::SLAWRENCETue Oct 19 1993 17:4411
    Note that it only counts as one hop if you are using a flexible channel
    connection between the two repeaters; if you are using the Thinwire
    backplane segment (which is the default), then it counts as two - just
    as in the DEChub 90.

    On hubwatch, the Ethernet segments you can create and delete are the
    flexible channel connections; the one that exists by default (always
    the top one, segment 1) is the Thinwire.

    As the previous reply noted, the existing 90 repeaters only use the
    Thinwire.
442.3DEChub 900: Detailed Config docs, please; Where ? When ?HGOVC::GUPTAWed Oct 20 1993 05:1618
    Ref .1, .2:

    Where do I find the detailed documents which can help me in
    configuring DEChub 900 modules ? When will these docs be available ?

    The directory TNPUBS::$1$DUA25:[PUBLIC.ONEHUB] have very brief
    documents and that too for only a few of the DEChub 900 modules.

    The DEChub 900 and its modules are more complicated products designed
    to solve more complicated problems. And hence, we will need much more
    detailed configuration documents (much more than, say DEChub 90
    manuals).

    Regards,
    Surender

    .PS: Is there a place where I can find the list of DEChub 900 modules
    (available and planned) ?
442.4HUBwatch installation guideSLINK::HOODI'd rather be surfingWed Oct 20 1993 12:272
The installation section of the HUBwatch doc set describes in detail how
to configure the DEChub 900 modules.
442.5current products are listed in the catalogDELNI::GIUNTAWed Oct 20 1993 16:2414
There is a nice catalog of Networking Products (EC-M6176-42) which lists all
the current products for the 90 and 900 plus their prices. I have a couple of
lists of the products from when we did the pricing and announcement submission,
but that's a fairly extensive document. I haven't done a list of all the
planned stuff as I only keep track of my own repeaters, and I wouldn't really
want to publish something listing futures given that those sorts of plans are
always changing, and it's tough to keep the information accurate and useful.

I think you'll get most of what you need by using the PID which I understand
is going in for a major revision sometime in November. Otherwise, ask here or
send me some mail, and I'll try to point you in the right direction.

Regards,
Cathy
