417.0. "DETMI or DECagent with Bus master" by STROP::LAYLAND () Tue Oct 12 1993 07:49

I am trying to put together a DEChub90 configuration. Four sites each site
has three DEChub90's. The sites will be bridged together, forming a ring.
The total No of WAN bridges is eight, therefore I cannot have any bridges in
the hubs. The hubs will only contain 10baseT repeaters and terminal servers,
and the Brouters. The hubs at each site will be connected together, possibly,
on a thin backbone. Because of the requirement af manageability and performance
monitoring required, I was considering two possibilities. 1. The new DECagent
with busmaster, and hubwatch, so as to manage the hubs without the need for
a bridge, plus the probe and probe watch. The problem here is the need for a DEC
agent in each hub (12). 2. using the DETMI, and DECserver90M, with hubwatch,
plus probe and probewatch. This seems the most cost effective. But I need firm
dates of both of these products. Needed before end 93.

I'll let someone else answer about the rest of your note, but as far as
the DECserver 90M...

You don't need a bridge or a DECagent 90 to manage the DECserver 90M; it's
got its own SNMP agent which HUBwatch uses. HUBwatch for OpenVMS VAX V2.0,
limited ship now, available thru SSB in early November, fully supports the 90M.

DecAgent with busmaster?

Hopefully I'm wrong, but the last word I heard was that the decagent with
busmaster functionality was not going to be available (at least not very soon).

My preference would be to see new decrepeater 90's with native snmp.
417.3we will put agents in repeatersDELNI::GIUNTATue Oct 12 1993 16:254
The DETMI (DECrepeater 90TS) will have a native SNMP agent so that it will
not require an agent and/or bridge to be managed in either the DEChub 90,
DEChub 900 or stand-alone. It is my plan to have all repeaters have
resident agents so that they can be managed in any configuration.

The decagent 2.0 will support busmaster. The date I got was January.
    Happy configuring
