415.0. "DEChub 900 Config Question" by ANGLIN::CLAYTON (Merlin Clayton DTN 445-7217) Wed Oct 06 1993 17:58

Is there a configuration guide on the network for the DEChub 900?

I have a specific question on how best to connect a DEChub 900 to an existing
thickwire or fiber backbone with the available modules.

Any good suggestiosn?

Using the existing modules, you could either use a DECrepeater 90FA which has
both an AUI and a fiber port, or a fiber bridge which also has an AUI and a
fiber port, depending on what sort of functionality you want besides just
the connections to the backbone.

Are you doing a configuration for installation soon, or did you also want
information on future stuff? I won't give future details out here, but if
you call me, I can give you more specific details.

In the meantime, from the information you gave in the basenote, either of the
two currently shipping products mentioned above meet your criteria.

Q. Does the fiber bridge have a limitation of 200 entries in the fowarding
   table? If so, I probably do not want to use the DECbridge 90xx in this
   config - the DECrepeater 90FA should work.

Q. Is there any potential problem having two DEChub 900 multiswitches connected
   via fiber using the DECrepeater 90FA in each hub? Does the repeater budget
   count as 2?

Q. Is there a consolidated list of ALL DEChub 90/900 components and part numbers
   on the network? (I need the part number for the DECrepeater 90FA ASAP, but
   I may also need to reference to other modules.)

Thanks.

415.3part numbers for youDELNI::GIUNTAMon Oct 11 1993 16:1713
If you connect 2 DEChub 900's via a DECrepeater 90FA in each one, then that
counts as 2 repeaters when you're looking at the configuration rules.

I just received a catalog called Networking Products from Digital which
lists all the DEChub products. Part number on it is EC-M6176-42 and it
looks like it's out of MKO (I found it on my desk, but I don't know who
left it).

The part number for the 90FA is DEFAR-MA for the in-hub version. If you
need more part numbers, just ask. I'll give you what I have until you
can get one of these catalogs (or even a DECconnect catalog).
