385.0. "DECSERVER 900TM address table size/auto learning?" by AIMHI::LAVERDURE (Ron -What Nodes my Mind On) Tue Sep 14 1993 19:10

We have a customer inquiring of the following questions; Please forgive me if
this information is evident to you , I have not a clue.

In regards to the DECSERVER 90TM;

What is the size of the reachable node address table, or how many node addresses
can be stored concurrently and be reachable concurrently on demand?

Is the DECSERVER 700TM capable of auto learning the addresses of nodes available
on the net? Please further specify by lan or wan and what protocols if available.

Thanks in advance;

Ron

    You mean LAT services? If so, the DECserver 900TM (and DECserver 700)
    manager the size of the LAT services table by an explicit command. If
    you set the limit to "NONE", then available memory is the only limit.
    That will depend on if you have 2 MB or 4 MB in the DECserver. The
    default limit is 200.

    > Is the DECSERVER 700TM capable of auto learning the addresses of nodes

    Yes, based on the inclusive OR or all group codes enabled on all ports.
    The newer code (BL54 and up) implement LAT solititation, whereby the
    service does not need to be in the LAT database to make a connection.
    The DECserver sends a solicit message, and listens for a response from
    suitably capable LAT "responders".

    > Please further specify by lan or wan and what protocols if available.

    This last question makes little sense to me. If we are indeed talking
    about LAT services, WAN is non sequitur, and the protocol is LAT.
    Are yoy talking about other kinds of "node addresses"?

    Regards,
