202.0. "What's wrong with DB90 v3.0 software" by HOO78C::TURHAN () Tue Apr 13 1993 10:30

    Hi,

    I tried to upgrade my DECbridge90 to V3.0 and followed all the
    instructions given on how to download the new software into the
    bridge.

    Download operation failed for some reason. According to the
    instructions it advises to retry. Unfortunately, the bridge now refuses
    any connection to its ethernet address. It is sort of locked itself. The
    second LED from the top does not come on after the self test any more.

    Did someone meet this problem before? The bridge which was working
    o.k. with v1.x before sems to be useless at this moment.

    Is there a way to reset it or whatsoever ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Tankut

The process of upgrading the ROM proceeds as follows:

	- Erase the existing ROM

	- Load the new ROM

If it fails to load, or if it fails to load completely as determined by
computing a checksum on the ROM, it will NOT light the 2nd light from the top
(the "system OK" light.) This is normal for your situation.

The bridge will fail to load, intermittently, if both ports are not properly
terminated and passing self test. It may also fail to hold a NCP CONNECT
session.

The only other thing I can think of right now is that it could hang up if is,
by coincidence, passes the checksum test with only part of the firmware loaded.
In this case, you are stuck. I have a way of freeing up a bridge that is stuck
that way, but it involves taking the box apart.

So, be sure the ports are properly terminated, and see if you can NCP CONNECT
to it and get a ">>" prompt.

202.2Terminating both ports helpsHOO78C::TURHANMon Apr 19 1993 11:128

    Hi,

    Thanks for the tip. Terminating all the ports did the trick. I was only
    terminating the port selected by the switch on the front panel.
