195.0. "Have Question on Cable Management" by KAOFS::M_AMIRAULT () Thu Mar 25 1993 14:02

    	Hello,

My name is Mark Amirault and I work for NIS in Ottawa Canada.

For the past few weeks I have been tring to respond to an RFP for
the Canadian Military up here in Canada.

Part of the RFP requires DEC to provide automated software tools
for both Network and Cable management.

I have found that Polycenter 200 for Open VMS meets the RFP
requirements for Network management, but I am having trouble
finding a Cable management product that will meet the RFP
    	requirements.

The Customer is requesting that the Cable management product
        provide the following functionallity:

-Applications to run on an Engineering type workstation
    		-Document cabling moves,adds or changes
-Assit in identifying cable faults or breaks
-Provide accurate location of all cables within the
    	   	 Network.
-Also, it is desirable if this product utilized the same
database as the Network management product.

I have looked at various other products such as DEC's CABLEmanager
ACCUBUS, ISICAD, OPENVIEW and COMMAND 2000 without much success.

I was wondering if any of you have Customer's that have found a
cost effective Cable management package that runs on Open VMS (or
Ultrix) and complements the Polycenter 200 application.

Any assistance that you could offer would be most appreciated.

    	Regards,

    	Mark
