187.0. "Ip address required.... Why not domain name..." by CSC32::R_ROMMES () Tue Mar 16 1993 12:52

On the VMS version of HUBwatch, without MCC, when I start
hubwatch by typing, "watch/agent agent90" it returns,

		ERROR: Agent IP address unspecified

I realize that if I specifiy the address that all is well, but
are you going to eventually allow hubwatch to use the namespace , or the local
host file ?

						Thanks, Rich.

For version 1.1 of HUBwatch (OpenVMS and ULTRIX), you'll need to specify the
IP address in your choice of:
	- command line
	- agents file
	- resource file

For version 2.0 (in a few more months), we'll try to do the IP address
translation thru the TCP/IP hosts file and nameserver. You'll get a pop-up
box for the remaining info, like community, timeout, and retries (probably
with default values supplied).

This should also be the same pop-up window that will appear if you startup
HUBwatch without any parameters (in place of the annoying error message you
now get with 1.1).

Almost two years later, but...

the nameserver lookup has been implemented for HUBwatch V4.0 for
OpenVMS VAX and for OSF/1 AXP. Doing it for VMS and Unix was pretty
easy. Doing it for Windows is quite a bit more complicated, so
HUBwatch for Windows probably will not support it.
