88.0. "HUBwatch for Windows installation problem" by COPCLU::GREG (Greg Parker @DMO, DEC Denmark, DTN 857-2454) Thu Nov 26 1992 12:59

        Hello,

        I have tried to install the HUBwatch for Windows kit,
        which was recently announced.

        I have followed the instructions in the 'guide' and when
        my PC boots, I get messages like "Packet driver is at..."
        and "My Ethernet address is...".

        However I can't PING anything. The suggested error is
        something like "Network address not known?". The DECagent
        is PINGable from an ULTRIX system.

        Any suggestions...

        Greg Parker, Denmark

     Greg,

    	Where does it say your Ethernet Address is at? Does it look like a
    valid Ethernet address?

    	The fact that you are not able to Ping anything suggests that you
    dod not install your drivers properly. FWIW that is the most difficult
    part of the HUBwatch installation. This is not a HUBwatch fault but
    just part of life on a PC.

    	Some quick things to check:

    		* did you modify your autoexec.bat and config.sys as
    described in the README icon in HUBwatch?

    		* did you CONFIGURE your NETDEV.SYS file correctly? If you
    are not seeing a valid Ethernet address coming up, this one would be my
    bet.

    	Let me know how you make out, and I'll help as I can. Let's do it
    here so that others can benefit.

                                        regards,
    					Mark

        My ethernet address is 08:00:2b:27:42:6a

        My AUTOEXEC.BAT is:

        rem call \DECNET\startnet SELECT LOGON

        My CONFIG.SYS is:

        DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
        DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM I=E000-E999

        device=c:\hubwatch\netdev.sys

        With the CUSTOM NETDEV command, I added my own IP address
        (16.181.64.253) and 0 as the number of subnet bits
        (subnet mask 255.0.0.0).

        The h/b option was set to 300, and the h/v option to 5

        I still can't PING anything....

    Did this problem ever get resolved?
    I have a similar problem/
    The packet driver seems to be loaded and find the ethernet address, but
    when I start windows it complains that it can't find the packet driver.
    Also ping doesn't work and says that the packet driver isn't loaded
    which seems a little weird.
    I have a DECstation 316 with a depca in it.

    thanks,
    Mike

    re: .3
    Well I found my problem.
    I had to stop decnet from starting and remove the depca.dos from
    config.sys and then it all works...
