49.0. "Hub Management Backplane info" by MLN08::PAGLIA (Without contraries is no progress) Thu Jul 09 1992 13:47

    Hello,

    	I know that the DEChub has a Hub Management Backplane (really a
    multidrop serial line that connects in parallel all the slots), and I
    would like to know which DEChub devices implement the related
    management protocol (in particular, the Who Are You command).

    This question relates to a big system integration project, in which
    standalone (no DEChub) DECbridges, DECserver 90TL and possibly DECrouters
    are used in ruggedized racks;
    the availability of the management interface on
    the DECxxx90 devices would allow us to build an 'autoconfiguration'
    functionality that would be very attractive for the customer.

    Thanks a lot.

    Currently DECrepeaters implement the where are you command thru the
    management bus. The DECbridge 90 is the only current management bus
    master. Future versions of the DECservers will implement this feature.
    The cisco router (DISCO) will also be able to be bus master and there
    are plans for the DECagent to be able to offer this functionality. I
    believe if you tell the management system the buss master adderss, it
    will find the slot of that module, but I am not 100% certain of this.
