38.0. "Can the DECbridge 90 filter NFS traffic" by NYDVIA::ROWLEY () Fri Mar 20 1992 18:54

    The documentation for the DECbridge 90 states that you can filter based
    on "protocol identifier". One of the protocol identifiers is
    60-06. Does this mean the I can filter NFS traffic if it has a protocol
    identifier.

    If the above is correct, could someone provide an example of how to
    set/define this filter?

    Thanks,
    Sean

38.1Yes, but do you want to do it?STKHLM::TORGNYMon Mar 23 1992 06:307
    Hi,

    NFS normally uses UDP on top of IP. IP is protocol type 08-00. Sure you can
    filter that, but then you loose all your IP traffic.

38.2NFS too high in the stack to filter by Ethernet protocol typeMEMIT::FORRESTTue Mar 24 1992 21:023
As .1 indicated NFS runs on top of UDP which runs on top of IP. You can
filter IP, but NFS is too high up in the stack to catch at the Ethernet
level.
