1056.0. "Running Exchange from Netscape under VMS ?" by JEREMY::OFER () Mon May 05 1997 18:34

Hello,

Can I run Exchange from VMS ?

Exchange Server V5 supports an access through a Web browser. There is
a Netscape version for VMS, is that mean that I can access my Exchange
mailbox from the VMS Netscape ?

Thanks /Ofer

If you have a server running V5 (which has
been configured to support this), then it won't
matter what platform the browser is on.

I'm assuming the VMS version supports frames,
I think that's a requirement.

I think the Exchange Web "stuff" in V5.0, only supports the latest web
browsers from Netscape and Microsoft. Therefore if the VMS version of
Netscape supports Java & ActiveX (and the Exchange server you're
connecting to is at V5.0 (HTTP enabled) & the server is running V3.0 of
IIS) you can read your Exchange mail.

Works with the latest Beta version of Netscape V30B5 downloaded from
the OpenVMS Webpage http://www.openvms.digital.com. My server was
    Exchange V5 RC1 on an AlphaStation 250 4/266

Performance on my VLC was very slow but if you have an OpenVMS Alpha
system I'm sure that would improve.

I think the Outlook web client only requires simple JavaScript 1.0 to
work correctly. No funky Java or ActiveX. (That's probably one of the
reasons it's not very good unless it's your only option.)

When did Outlook begin running under OpenVMS? :-) :-)
