New DLL Available for Microsoft Exchange Windows 95 Client 4.0
The Microsoft Exchange Windows 95 client currently requires that the
Microsoft Client for Microsoft Networks redirector (Vredir.vxd) be
installed on the Windows 95 client. Because Microsoft Exchange uses
integrated security with the Windows NT Directory Services, the
Microsoft Exchange client needs validation from a Windows NT domain
controller. For NetWare-only environments using Microsoft Exchange
Server, this means both the Microsoft Network redirector and a NetWare
redirector must be installed on a Windows 95 client. This limitation is
a result of how the NTLM security subsystem was designed on Windows 95,
and is not the fault of the Microsoft Exchange Windows 95 client. The
Microsoft Exchange Windows 3.x and Microsoft Exchange Windows NT clients
do not have this requirement.
The updated NTLM security DLL fixes this problem so that the Microsoft
redirector is no longer needed for the Exchange client to get validated.
It should be placed in the Windows\System subdirectory. This updated DLL
is found in the Windows 95 DCOM update on:
http://www.microsoft.com/oledev/olemkt/oledcom/dcom95.htm

LDAP Information URLs
Microsoft Exchange 5.0 support LDAP, but finding publicly available LDAP
resources can be difficult. Check out these links for technical
information on LDAP:

New Features Overview: Microsoft Exchange News Service (NNTP)
Microsoft Exchange Server 5.0 extends the reach of public folders to the
Internet with full support for the Internet standard Network News
Transport Protocol (NNTP). Microsoft Exchange Server supports
replication of newsgroups with any standards-based NNTP server. Any
public folder in Microsoft Exchange Server can be published as a
newsgroup for access from NNTP newsreaders or replication with other
NNTP servers. For the full article see
http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/nntp.htm

Did You Know?
The March 1997 Did You Know focuses on the newly released Microsoft
Outlook Client (which also ships as part of Microsoft Exchange Server
5.0).

When using Microsoft Outlook - did you know?
*	In the Calendar, to select discontinuous days, hold down the CTL
key and use the monthly date navigator to select dates. You can even
select discontinuous weeks by holding down the CTL key and clicking to
the left of different weekly rows. Or, you can use keyboard shortcuts
to quickly change Calendar views. Alt-1 displays 1 day, Alt-2 displays
2 days, and so on to Alt-9, which displays 9 days side-by-side. You can
also hit Alt-"-" for Week mode and Alt-"=" for Month mode.
*	Instead of attaching big documents to e-mail, meeting requests,
contacts, etc., use a hyperlink if the document resides on a server or
intranet. All Outlook items support rich text, so simply start typing
the URL (e.g. http://www.microsoft.com) or File:\\ and Outlook will
change the text to the hyperlink. Click on the hyperlink and Outlook
will automatically launch your web browser or jump you to the net
location. This saves on traffic for your mail server.
*	If you have a large contact list, use Categories to create
subsets that you can sort and group by. You can even create custom
categories. Open a contact item, click on the Categories button at the
bottom of the form. Click on Master Category List button. Type in the
custom category and hit "Add". For a mass e-mailing, drag and drop a
category of contacts into the Inbox icon on the Outlook bar, and Outlook
will automatically populate the To: field with all the e-mail addresses.

*	You can do Word mail merges with the Outlook Address Book. In
addition, if you have a Category, such as Christmas Cards, on your
Contacts and you want to just send the letter to those people, you need
to first filter the Contacts by Category. Select Christmas cards, copy
these Contacts to a new Contact folder (File_New Folder). Then select
this folder as the Outlook Address Book you want to merge with.
*	To forward a contact to another Outlook user, select the
contact, right mouse click, and choose "Forward." Outlook will
automatically put the contact item into a mail message. The recipient
simply has to drag and drop the contact item (from the mail message)
over the Contact icon (on the Outlook bar) and Outlook will
automatically add the item.
