852.0. "Mbx/account creation in master domain model?" by CHEFS::gjcpc.reo.dec.com::criddle () Fri Jan 31 1997 12:21

Hi...

When creating Exchange Mailboxes, an administrator can associate a Primary
Windows NT Account with it. This offers the option of creating a new account
in the same or different domain as the mailbox server.

Does anyone know how this works in the case of a master-domain (either single
or multiple) model?

I don't have the environment to check it, but it seems to me that in the case
of a master domain model, where the resource domain trusts the user domain
(and not vice versa), attempting to create (or even associate) an NT account
in the user domain at this point would fail.

Is this correct?

If so, could one get round it by installing the Exchange Admin software in the
user domain, and carrying out the account and mailbox creation from there?

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Rgds,
Graham

Graham,

My customer employs the single master domain model. The accounts and
mailboxes are created via a privileged account (domain and Exchange admin
privs) in the user domain. It works just fine.

Dave

Thanks, Dave...

So the way to go is to do the account / mailbox creation in the user domain,
not the resource domain as the trusts wouldn't permit it.

Many thanks,
