1318.0. "DECjet printer on the ST?" by NEWOA::HAYES (Ian Hayes @NEW, (774) 6044) Thu Oct 08 1992 14:21

    I am considering a DECjet 1000 for attaching to my ST (Employee
    purchase scheme makes it attractive financially).

    Has anyone any comments regarding its quality versus other more obvious
    ST printers like the Canon BJ10, the Star 'whatever it's called' etc.

    Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the DECjet speaks HP Deskjet
    Plus (without the add on Epson emulator pack - another 70 pounds!) -
    what is the availability of drivers for this nowadays? Especially for
    packages: 1stword+ and DEGAS.

    Thanks in advance,
    Ian.

    Having a LaserJet (and friends of mine a DeskJet), I know that there
    are some GDOS drivers around for both of them (for the use with
    Timeworks or GEMdraw etc). For both HP printers there are no Wordplus
    drivers that are able to do graphics (at least I'm looking since a
    couple of months). Docs without graphics do just fine with the drivers
    for Desk- or LaserJet. The newer programs (like Tempus Word etc) have
    built-in HP-drivers which are really good in every aspect.

1318.2Jeff Lomicka's unjam.acc works great on the DECjet 1000BRSTR1::PIGEONAlpha = (YB)^2Tue Jan 05 1993 15:1713
    This topic is also discussed in note 26.0

    For my part the best tool that I have found up to now is a
    accessory written by Jeff Lomicka called Unjam.acc (Unjam.zoo).

    There is a note somewhere in this conference where he gives a pointer
    to it. When loaded you get nice screen dumps on an half page.

Yes, I'm reading still reading this conference.

I also have a similar program for the Macintosh that I use when running
with the GCR.

The need to write "Unjam" is one of the reasons I'm now a Macintosh user.
