1146.0. "Atari emulator on MS-DOS?" by ADO75A::WILEY (Infinity - who really cares...?) Thu Jun 20 1991 23:45

    This may seem like a silly question, but...

    Is there available an Atari emulator that runs under MS-DOS?

    (I know there are MS-DOS emulators that run on Atari's, but I already
    have a very nice 80386-based machine, but would like to run some Atari
    software on it.)

    Public Domain would be nice, but I will buy it if necessary.

    Regards,
    Robin.

1146.1ST emulator for the IBMAIDEV::HUTCHINSONHutchFri Jun 21 1991 15:0822
Robin,

As of this writing, I know of no such emulator. However, one IS in the works.

Darek Michocka of ST Transformer and Quick ST fame says he is developing just
such a device in software. Whether or not this product will ever see the light
of day will depend on its marketability and Atari's willingness to license a
version of TOS (unless he comes up with a board in which you would insert TOS
ROMs much like the Spectre Mac emulators).

Wow, you don't ask for much do you? <grin> You got any idea how much work it
would be to get an Intel 80286/386 to emulate a Motorola 68000, let alone the
system specific stuff? Then again, Darek showed the world how to get a 68000
to do a darn good job of emulating a 6502!

You can let Darek know of your interest via Branch Always Software, 14150 NE
20th St #302, Bellvue, WA 98007, phone (206)885-5893. He's also on GEnie and
Compuserve a lot.
